Our client is a multi-site construction group managing dozens of active projects across the South East. Their teams include project managers, site supervisors, quantity surveyors and an expanding admin function. Prior to the engagement, IT was a mix of ad-hoc solutions: local NAS devices at sites, inconsistent connectivity, and no central backup strategy.
The move to a single HQ presented an opportunity but also risk. Project teams needed fast access to large CAD and BIM files, site reports needed to be uploaded reliably from areas with poor connectivity, and the business required a secure approach to sharing contractor documentation. The legacy environment caused slow file access and duplicated work when multiple teams edited the same documents. The leadership team wanted a solution that improved performance, simplified management, and reduced the risk of data loss — without a heavy CapEx burden.
We built a managed LAN with link-aggregated storage connectivity, redundant switches, and VLAN segmentation for office, VoIP, and guest networks to ensure performance and security across the HQ.
Large project files were hosted on a hybrid setup combining on-premises NAS for speed and cloud-synced repositories for remote access and collaboration. This balanced performance with resiliency.
We configured site-to-HQ VPNs and lightweight sync clients for site offices, allowing personnel to upload reports and photos securely even over constrained connections. Files synchronised automatically once bandwidth permitted.
Daily encrypted backups of all critical systems to geographically redundant cloud storage were implemented, with regular restore testing as part of a documented disaster recovery plan.
We delivered site-specific training for project teams and provided clear runbooks to the internal operations team for common support tasks and escalation paths.
The HQ environment now supports fast collaborative work on CAD/BIM assets and provides reliable, auditable access to project documentation. File sync reduced duplicate work and accelerated approvals. The leadership team reported improved project delivery times and a reduction in delays caused by missing information. Operational costs linked to fragmented storage and failed restores dropped significantly, and the business now has a tested disaster recovery process that gives confidence to clients and insurers.
